I know there are critics of Hour of Code, but it does serve the purpose of showing kids there’s more to computers than YouTube, and works on critical thinking skills. Plus, it’s fun for me.
Version 3.4: Drawing, Fonts, and Photo Layout - Day One
I’ve been on a grandfathered “Plus” account with Day One as a purchaser before Day One switched to a subscription model. With yesterday’s addition of drawing and Apple Pencil support to the Premium subscription tier, I added a membership gift certificate to my Christmas list. Can’t wait to try it out.
DJ Earworm Mashup - United State of Pop 2018 (Turnin' It Up) - YouTube
The first edition I saw of DJ Earworm’s annual United State of Pop mashup was in 2008. The central song it was built around was Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida,” and I recognized every line pulled from other songs. Since then, one of my favorite parts of December is this video’s release.
It’s funny though that every year I seem to recognize fewer and fewer songs used in the mashup. I wonder if this is something most people experience as they transition from their early 20s to early 30s, or if it’s just my musical tastes changing. I have a feeling it’s the first one, and that’s actually fine by me.
At 21 I didn’t know enough of myself to know what I actually liked. I allowed what was popular to decide that for me. I’ve learned enough in the intervening years to make choices for myself.
It’s either that or I’ve become a curmudgeon who decided what he liked 10 years ago, and hasn’t allowed that to change. 😂
Can’t believe it’s been 4 years since I somehow convinced my wife we needed a dog, and that this girl was the one. Macy’s the best, most loyal, sweetest dog I’ve ever had. This picture of us from a few weeks after we got her sums her up perfectly.

Due to user error, I had an app add 32 events to my calendar on consecutive days. Rather than deleting each of them manually, I created a 2 step Shortcut to do it for me. Automation doesn’t have to be crazy. Even in simplicity, it can save a ton of time.

My goodness does this make me happy. One of my favorite artists for a dozen years now, Sean McConnell just keeps getting better.

My post image to micro.blog Shortcut broke sometime in the Workflow to Shortcuts transition. Not sure why I had to change the logic, but I’ve updated it and it’s working great again.
📺 Did I think last week’s episode of Doctor Who, “Kerblam!”, was a great episode? No. Did I still hesitate before popping some bubble wrap just now? Yep. 🤦🏻♂️
